The city wakes before the Sun.

There is no sky beyond the window. Morning still arrives through changing light, the smell of bread and the soft sound of delivery carts in the street. For Nao, fourteen and born on the Moon, this is simply how a day begins.

Morning is not made by the Sun. It begins when a whole neighbourhood agrees to start the day.

Time glows where a window would be.

At 06:20 the bedroom wall moves from deep blue to pale gold. Light rises from low fixtures and washes across the vaulted ceiling, telling the body that morning has arrived. In the homes of residents returning from night shift, the same walls remain dark.

A small display shows surface temperature, radiation and Earth's position. Here, checking the weather means asking whether the surface is accessible and which systems are under maintenance.

Breakfast carries a resource history.

The shared kitchen serves bread, greenhouse leaves and fermented-protein soup. Shelf labels show more than price: lunar ingredients, water use and where each container must return. Earth coffee is rare enough that two people may share one cup for its aroma.

Containers go to washing; organic remains go to recovery. Children grow up knowing what becomes water again, what becomes growing medium and what cannot be reused.

School is eight minutes away, without a suit.

Nao crosses a planted garden and leaves a grandmother at the clinic. Homes, school, shops and care facilities share one pressure district, so everyday travel needs neither a vehicle nor a spacesuit. The corridor is both an evacuation route and a neighbourhood street.

A heavy pressure door marks the district boundary. Usually open, it becomes visible only while its indicator changes to green—a brief reminder that this ordinary street exists beneath the Moon.
